Our Curriculum

Our childcare curriculum at The Village School provides developmentally appropriate activities and learning materials for all children. We encourage your child to be actively involved in the learning process. We also encourage your child be conscious of their own interests in the context of their experiences, environment, and dreams.

The curriculum is based on a blend of age-appropriate learning materials and child/staff interaction throughout the day. We use eight different discovery centers.

We have curriculums for toddlers/twos, preschool, kindergarten, and school-age children.

A typical daily schedule consists of

  • indoor and outdoor play activities
  • quiet time
  • activities individually, in small groups, and in large groups
  • large- and small-muscle activities, and
  • child-initiated and staff-initiated activities

The relative mixture of each of these activities in a group is age-dependant.

Developmentally appropriate materials are chosen that reflect the diversity of our society. Also, materials are selected for gender, and for the various age groups.

Our staff members are always responsive to the cue of your child for a particular need in the learning process. This response is activated most often with the infants and todlers, although the response occurs with respect to all age groups.

Our staff provides a daily program of activities that target a number of social skill development goals for your child:

  • development of a positive self-image
  • development of social skills
  • development of language skills
  • development of physical skills
  • development of cultural skills that show respect for staff and other children
  • development of skills for creative expression
  • development of health, safety, and nutrition awareness skills

Routine tasks are handled in a relaxed, reassuring manner, such as diapering, toileting, eating, dressing, and napping. Special diets are monitored.

The program for each group has enough flexibility to allow child-initiated activities. Your child may choose from a variety of activities available from planned activities, or they may initiate ideas of their own at times. And the staff members respect the child's right not to participate. Changes in planned activities may be necessary due to weather. Flexibility, thus, is built into our curriculum.

You are always encouraged to talk with your teacher at the end of the day to discuss your child's progress in these or any other area of development. We encourage that you visit with your teacher in your child's classroom. We also wish that you will take the time to socialize your concerns, ideas, and recommendations with us. Our Director and owner Miss Helle will be happy to talk with you at any time.

We are more content-specific about your child's daily program in the Programs page. So we invite you to explore that area. And if you have any questions, please call us at 972-235-6930, or else This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. us.
